The Adult Cardiothoracic Surgery department at Chest Diseases Hospital (CDH) is a premier center dedicated to providing comprehensive care for adults with complex heart and lung conditions. Our highly skilled and experienced surgeons utilize the latest advancements in minimally invasive and robotic-assisted techniques, ensuring optimal outcomes for our patients.
From the Heart of Leadership

Dear visitors,
Welcome to the website of the Cardiathoracic Surgery department at the Chest Disease Hospital.
We offer you a variety of surgical and medical care of the highest standard. Our goal is to provide excellent quality care for all diseases of the heart and thoracic system using the latest and minimally invasive techniques. We always incorporate the most advanced scientific techniques to ensure we can always offer our patients modern, safe, and less invasive treatment options.
In cardiac surgery, our spectrum includes complete arterial bypass surgery on a beating heart, modern valve reconstruction procedures, interventional procedures for valve reconstruction and replacement, treatment of diseases of the thoracic aorta, and treatment of heart failure with artificial heart implantation.
Together with the staff of cardiology, anesthesiology, intensive care medicine, and radiology, we form the Heart Team at the chest diesease hospital that insure the best outcome for each patient. As part of the Kuwaiti health ministry, we work closely with regional hospitals and practicing cardiologists to provide the best possible treatment for complex conditions and address your individual needs holistically through close collaboration with all specialist disciplines.
To ensure optimal long-term care for our patients in Cardiothoracic medicine, we place great emphasis on developing modern techniques through clinical and experimental research, as well as on training students and young physicians. On this website, we would like to introduce you to our team and the range of treatments we offer, as well as provide you with information about a stay at our clinic.
If you have further questions about your condition, please feel free to visit one of our specialist consultations for a personal consultation. We look forward to hearing from you and welcoming you!

Commitment Beyond Care
Adult Cardiac Surgery Services
Our Adult Cardiac Surgery Department offers comprehensive, advanced surgical care for heart conditions. Our team of expert cardiac surgeons provides personalized treatment using state-of-the-art technology to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Below are the key procedures we perform:
1. Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG)
CABG is a life-saving procedure for blocked coronary arteries, restoring blood flow to the heart. Using grafts from healthy vessels, we bypass the blockages to improve heart function. We offer traditional sternotomy and minimally invasive approaches based on patient needs. CABG helps relieve chest pain (angina) and reduces the risk of heart attacks.
2. Valve Surgery (Repair & Replacement)
We specialize in repairing or replacing damaged heart valves (aortic, mitral, tricuspid, or pulmonary) to restore proper blood flow. Valve repair preserves the patient’s own tissue, while replacement uses mechanical or biological prostheses. Our techniques include open surgery and minimally invasive options for faster recovery.
3. Aorta Surgery
We treat aortic aneurysms and dissections through complex surgical interventions, including ascending/descending aorta repair and aortic root replacement. Our team performs both open surgery and endovascular (stent-based) techniques to prevent life-threatening complications.
4. Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery
Minimally invasive techniques (small incisions, robotic-assisted, or thoracoscopic surgery) reduce pain, scarring, and recovery time. We use these for CABG, valve repairs, and arrhythmia treatments. Patients benefit from shorter hospital stays and quicker return to daily activities.
5. Arrhythmia Surgery
For irregular heart rhythms (like atrial fibrillation), we offer surgical ablation (Maze procedure) alongside other treatments. This disrupts abnormal electrical pathways, restoring a normal heartbeat. It can be performed alone or during other cardiac surgeries.
6. Temporary & Permanent Mechanical Support Surgery
We provide ventricular assist devices (VADs) for advanced heart failure, serving as a bridge to transplant or long-term support. Temporary options (like ECMO) stabilize critically ill patients. Our team ensures safe implantation and post-operative management.
