Established in 1959 under the reign of Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, the hospital bears the name of its specialized focus on respiratory and, in particular, cardiac ailments.

Hesham Al Saqer Center
The new facility is spread over an area of 5,000 square meters, with a total construction area of 16,000 square meters. Construction began in January 2014 and includes outpatient clinics, rehabilitation, laboratories, tests, and research, spread over four floors. The center has 16 outpatient clinics.
Al Osaimi Center
Nestled between the Chest Diseases Hospital and the Specialized Heart Center, the new facility spans an area of 1,250 square meters, with a total construction area of approximately 8,750 square meters. The eight-story building houses a 14-bed super cardiac care unit, a 10-bed intensive care unit, and patient wards with a capacity of 20 beds each.
